644 extremists in Assam surrender with 177 weapons

A total of 644 leaders, members of Assam's eight committed terrorist organizations, on Thursday surrendered in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal with 177 weapons.

Reported by the Assam Police, the organizations represented are United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), National Democratic Front of Borland (NDFB), Rabha National Liberation Front (RNLF), Kamtapur Liberation Organization (KLO Front), CPO, National Liberation Organization (CPLO) A total of 644 members of eight groups, Bengali (NLFB), NSLA and ADF surrendered to the CM in a program Entered the mainstream. Simultaneously, the surrender of 644 terrorists was becoming historic and important for the Assam and Assam police.

During the surrender, the terrorists handed over weapons to the police like AK-47, AK-56. Earlier, more than 240 terrorists surrendered between December 8 and December 31, but the latest incident is one of the biggest surrender incidents.

It is worth mentioning that the terrorists have been involved in violent and criminal activities including abductions in southern Assam, Mizoram and northern Tripura for the last decade. Local tribal extremists, who surrendered in December, collected heavy amounts of ammunition in addition to 150 different types of guns.

Police and district officials have been communicating with the terrorists for the last three years and as a result, the rebels have returned to the mainstream with weapons surrendered. The demand for a separate Bodo state has been rampant in Assam for the past five decades and violence has been resorted to.
