(PTI) Bengaluru, Ta. December 8, 2019, Sunday

The fate of the BJP's four-month-old government of Yeddyurappa in Karnataka will be decided today. The result of the by-elections held in the 15 seats will come by evening.

The election held on December 5 was 67.91 percent of the vote. The counting of votes will start at eight in the morning at eleven centers and the result is likely to be done by around noon, the election official said.

There was a need to hold a by-election by disqualifying 17 rebels from Congress and JD-S. Due to his rebellion, the HD government's government fell in July and became the BJP government.

Twelve of the fifteen seats were with the Congress and three were with the JDS. The result of the by-elections with 67.91% of the vote is very important to the BJP government.

The Assembly, which has a membership of 225, required 105 MLAs for the majority, with 18 members being removed from the House to 208, but on July 29, Yeddyurappa won a vote of no confidence.

However, two seats in the legislature will remain vacant where due to legal process, elections could not be held. At present, the BJP has 105 MLAs and they do not need to worry as they have the support of an independent MLA.

66 of the Congress and 34 of the Janata Dal-Secular, one BSP and one nominated member. All security arrangements were made for the calculation. The vote counting center banned the gathering of four persons.

Local TV channels and agencies have predicted BJP to get nine or twelve seats out of 15. Chief Minister Yeddyurappa said his government will survive. We will finish five years in the government. People expect the same, 'he said.

So the Congress said that the people would teach a lesson to the lawmakers who are defaming. The BJP had given ticket to 13 of the 16 who were disqualified and joined the BJP. The Supreme Court allowed him to contest the election.

However, if the Yeddyurappa government gets a majority, they will have to take heavy action to balance the cabinet. In most of the constituencies, there is a direct confrontation between the Congress and the BJP. In southern Karnataka, Janata Dal S dominated.
