Today, amid protests, Amit Shah will introduce a citizenship bill in the Lok Sabha

New delhi date. December 8, 2019, Sunday

The Cabinet has approved a bill amending the Citizenship Act. In the meantime, he will now be presented to the Lok Sabha on Monday. Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce the bill and inform the Lok Sabha about its benefits.

The bill is currently being opposed and the opposition is claiming that the bill is communist and that citizenship should not be determined on the basis of religion.

If this bill is approved, it will be submitted to the Rajya Sabha later. The bill also provides that any non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and those living in India will be granted Indian citizenship.

However, these refugees did not include Muslims and Hindus, Christians, Jains and Parsis were included. This led to a huge controversy over the matter. Citizenship laws have not been amended for nearly six decades;

According to the government, anyone who has come to India as a refugee after suffering persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh before December 31, 2014 will be given this citizenship. It does not include Muslims, however. The bill will be passed in the Lok Sabha but it is difficult to pass it in Rajya Sabha.
