The loan of the Ministerial Mudra Yojana was Rs 17,251 crore NPA

Of the Rs 6.04 lakh crore loan sanctioned under the Ministerial Mudra Yojana (PMMY), 3 per cent of the loans have become NPAs, the government said today.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PMMY on April 8, 2015. Under this scheme, loans up to Rs 1 lakh are given to non-corporate, non-farming small / micro enterprise.

Responding to a question on PMMY in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur also said that there have been several complaints regarding the implementation of PMMY. This includes complaints like ignoring loan applications, delays in approving a loan.

According to information provided by Scheduled Commercial Bank (SCB), Regional Rural Bank (RRB), out of the total loan of Rs 6.04 lakh crore given under PMMY by the end of March 2019, Rs 17,251.52 crore has become NPA. Which accounts for 2.86 percent of the total loan. The loan given under PMMY is known as currency.

Under this scheme, loans are given under three categories infants, adolescents and teenagers. In response to another question, the Minister said that branches of public sector banks have increased significantly. The number of branches of government banks at the end of March, 2014 was 78,939, which has increased to 87,580 at the end of March 2019.

The Minister further said that government banks have disbursed Rs 47,658 crore in FY 2014-15, Rs 56,847 crore in 2015-16, Rs 79,048 crore in 2016-17, Rs 1,24,275 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 1,86,632 crore in 2018-19.
