(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. December 3, 2019, Tuesday

To curb the rising prices of onions, the central government had reduced the stock holding limit for retailers and wholesalers. Wholesale traders can hold 25 and retailers five tonnes of onion.

In the last few weeks, the country has witnessed sky highs. The government had also taken various steps to increase the supply, though dumplings were not available. Earlier, retailers were allowed to stock up to ten tonnes of onion stock.

Similarly, wholesalers could stock up to 50 tonnes of onion stock. Now they will only be able to hold half of it, an AAM official said. However, the stock limit will not be applicable for imported dumplings.

The rule will be applicable only for domestic onions, "said a consumer affairs and supply ministry official. Responding to the situation of onion in Parliament today, Minister for Consumer Affairs Danve Ravasheb Dadaroy said that there was no thought of selling onions at the same price across the country.
