The government has approved Rs 8754 crore for census, 2021 and Rs 941 crore for updating NPR. Starting from April next year, the first phase of the census, 2021, will begin with the NPR update. The NPR update process will be completed by September.

The NPR was started in the UPA regime in 2010. The census, 2021, will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, the home counting process will be completed from April to September 2020. Under the second phase, the census will be conducted from February 9 to February 28.

The Union Cabinet has approved funds of ૩941.૩5 crore for updating the National Population Register. The work on updating the NPR will start from April next year. The NPR lists the people living in the country.

The list will include the names of natural residents. NPR has been included in the local area for the last six months or more, or residents who want to live for the next six months or more.

Data was collected for the National Population Register in 2010. This data was updated from house to house in 2015. The digitization of this update information has also been completed. Every person living in India is required to register his / her name in NPR.

According to the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, the National Population Register will be updated from April to September, 2020 and with this the House Listing phase will be started for the census, 2021.

Another important decision taken by the Cabinet was to approve an ordinance to amend the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). An official statement said that after these changes, there will be no liability for the offenses committed before the bankruptcy settlement process begins on the corporate debtor.

Another important decision taken at a Cabinet meeting was to allow the Atal Bajjal Yojana. 6000 crore will be spent on this scheme for proper management of ground water sources.

Under this scheme, 850 villages of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh will be covered. The Cabinet has also approved the reorganization of the Railway Board. Under the restructuring, the number of railway board members will be reduced from eight to four. The new board will consist of members of only Operation and Business Development, Human Resources, Infrastructure and Finance.

There are no plans to prepare NRC based on NPR

Based on the information of the National Population Register (NPR), which is updated next year, no plans have been made to prepare the National Register of Citizens (NRC), authorities said. The clarification was made by Home Ministry officials when a dispute over the NRC and the Citizenship Amendment Act was underway. It may be mentioned that yesterday, Prime Minister Modi also said that there was no discussion on NRC in the government.
