Telangana High Court orders post mortem of rapists' bodies

The case of four accused in the gang rape of a woman doctor last month in Hyderabad is getting serious. The Telangana High Court has directed the post mortem of the bodies of all four accused in the gang rape. All four accused in the case were killed in an encounter on December 6th.

The bodies of all the four accused have been kept at Government Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad as per the directions of the High Court. Hyderabad police have directed to maintain the bodies of the accused in the fake encounter of the accused and after some PIL in the High Court for judicial inquiry of the encounter.

However, a senior medical officer at Gandhi Hospital said that the bodies could not be kept safe for long. The hospital sought before the court a direction in respect of the bodies.

Chief Justice R.K. S. Chauhan and Judge A. A division bench comprising Abhishek Reddy directed Telangana Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Department to request the Director of All India Medical Sciences in Delhi to send a team of three specialist forensic specialists for the second postmortem.

The Bench also directed to submit the second postmortem before December 23 and before the Registrar General of the High Court. After the second post-mortem, the bodies are likely to be handed over to the families of the four accused. Doctors are advised to present an independent opinion based on the evidence they collect.

The Supreme Court has recently set up a three-member inquiry commission to investigate the encounters of all four accused. The commission includes retired Bombay High Court judge Rekha Baldota and former CBI director Kartikeyan.

The Commission is expected to submit its report within six months. The accused were raped by police on December 6th in Shadnagar, Hyderabad.
