Proposal to US Parliament to resume Internet in Jammu and Kashmir

(PTI) Washington, Ta. December 9, 2019, Monday

Indian-American MP Pramila Jaipal has submitted a proposal in the US Parliament demanding the resumption of Internet service in Jammu and Kashmir and release of detained persons.

Pramila Jaipal has appealed to India to remove the communication sanctions imposed in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible and to protect the religious freedom of all people living there.

Pramila made the proposal at the House of Representatives after several weeks of efforts, and she received the support of only one member in the form of Kansas Republican MP Steve Watkins.

This is just a proposal and it cannot be voted on in the second house and it cannot be a law. Before the proposal was presented, Indian-American Americans of the entire United States opposed it from various forums.

It is learned that Pramila Jaipal's office received more than 25,000 emails from Indian Americans for not submitting the proposal. In addition, Indian-Americans also held peaceful demonstrations outside their office against Pramila's move to submit a proposal on the Kashmir issue.

The proposal calls for the release of those held in custody as soon as possible, and to prevent them from signing a bond that would abstain from political activities and speeches. However, India has always been opposed to such conditional claims.
