Poor onion disappears from onion plate: price is Rs 180 per kg!

Onion prices rise The government says that 21 thousand tonnes of onion will come to the country after one and a half months. Only then will the onion prices come under control. Surprisingly, the price of good quality onion in the state of Tamil Nadu in the southern part of the country has gone up by Rs 180 per kg. On the other hand, the price of low quality onion has also increased by Rs 120 per kg. Onion prices in the country's capital and surrounding areas have risen from Rs 80 per kg to Rs 130 per kg.

Onions will be imported from these countries

The Ministry of Food and Public Distribution said that 4000 tonnes of onion would be imported from Turkey by MMTC, the largest foreign trade company. The onion will arrive in mid-January. The government has arranged for 11,000 Turkish and 6090 tonnes of onion from Egyptian companies.

Important decisions taken by the government to remedy the shortage

One of the three tenders issued by MMTS is a global tender of 5000 tonnes of onion, meaning that 5000 tonnes of onion can be shipped from any country. The tender for 5000 tonnes of onion has been released from Turkey and 5000 tonnes from the European Union. It may be mentioned that the central government has decided to import 1.2 lakh tonnes of onion. Onion tender size has also been allowed in the new tender, where onion size has been kept from 40mm to 80mm, except in the case of fumigation, the first has been extended to 30th November and now to 31st December.

The government agency will keep an eye on it

The government will monitor the entire process of import and distribution of special onions to the coordination committees and also take care of the onions arriving in time in all states. The committee will meet daily with the officials of MMTC, Nafed, Indian Container Corporation Limited (Concor) and other concerned ministries and departments. The government will procure onion from the productive states at the domestic level and supply the onion deficient states all over the country accordingly.
