New laws to protect women need political will: Naidu

(PTI) Pune, Ta. December 8, 2019, Sunday

Vice-President Waqiya Naidu today said that not only new laws to control the oppression of women are not only required, but also political will power and administrative skills are needed to curb social misery.

Referring to the rape of Unnao and Hyderabad, Naidu said, "In Indian culture we consider women as mothers and sisters. But what happened recently is a real shame and a big challenge for all of us." We must make every effort to prevent this kind of discrimination and oppression. '

Addressing the 16th graduation ceremony of Symbiosis International University, the Vice-President said that new laws were not enough. 'We brought Nirbhaya bills, what happened? Has the rape problem been resolved?

I am not against the new law or the bill, but I always feel that political will power and administrative skills are very much needed to stop the atrocities committed against women.

He added that if we look at such incidents from the religious and political perspective, then the motive seems to have been forgotten. The vice-president said that such incidents are defaming the country. But he also warned that at such times politics should not be played at the expense of the nation.
