Navy cuts seven percent in China's infiltration: Navy chief

New delhi date. December 3, 2019, Tuesday

China's infiltration into the maritime area is increasing. In the midst of this situation, Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh said that the budget allocated for the defense forces, and especially the Navy, is low and needs to be increased.

Expressing concern with the Navy Chief, he said that the budget received by the Navy during the financial year 2012-13 was 18 per cent, while it has been cut to 13 per cent in 2018-19 which is less than the current situation.

Former Navy chief celebrates Navy Day, saying India needs to increase the number of aircraft carriers it currently has. Currently the Navy uses Russian-origin INS Vikramaditya and is the only aircraft carrier in India.

There are reports that the Navy has approached the Prime Minister's Office to help with budget increases and other items. The Navy Chief said it was a fact that the Navy's budget had dropped significantly. Nineteen budgets in defense budget were up 18% till 2013, which is currently down to 13%.

In such a situation, as China's infiltration into the maritime areas on the one hand has increased, India should increase its efforts to protect itself. It is equally important for India to increase the number of aircraft carriers.
