Violent demonstrations, media cars burned: Police attack in Mangalore: Violence and vandalism in Bihar

Opposition to citizenship (Amendment) law, which began in Assam, North Eastern states, was spread in several cities across the country on Thursday. Three people were killed in violent incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Mangalore.

Thousands of people, including students, social workers, leaders of the opposition in various areas across the country, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, broke down banning orders and took to the streets. Police in Delhi arrested hundreds of locals for violating Article 144 in several areas and closed Delhi Metro stations at several places.

Police stopped Internet, messaging services in several areas in view of extraordinary protests in the national capital. On the other hand, the protests became violent in many areas of Sambalpur and Bihar in Uttar Pradesh. In Bangalore, the police arrested people who were protesting.

The protests were mostly peaceful in most parts of Delhi and people were brutally accused of police lathi charges against students at Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. People were gathering at the Red Fort with banners and play cards to protest the new citizenship law.

Police had set up barricades to stop people in and around Delhi and several stations in Delhi metro were closed. Nevertheless, as people gathered at the Red Fort, police arrested hundreds of people for violating Article 144 of the CRPC.

Apart from the Red Fort, a large number of people gathered at Jantar Mantar for peaceful demonstrations. Considering the stressful situation in the capital, many private companies have appealed to their employees to work from home and not to attend appearances.

Violent protests in Lucknow, Sambalpur in UP

In Sambalpur in Uttar Pradesh, protesters burned a state transport bus while demonstrations in the capital Lucknow also turned violent. The protesters burned vehicles parked outside a police station and threw stones at the police.

Police in the state had almost always failed to contain the violence. DGP P. Singh said that the police had to release tear gas shells to overcome the situation in Madeganj. The police issued notices to more than 3,000 people who were demonstrating.

The protesters also vandalized in Dalliganj area. During the violent protests, a firing was reported in Thakurganj area. One person was killed in a clash between police and demonstrators. Two police posts were also targeted and set on fire.

In Lucknow, the Samajwadi Party and Congress MLAs held demonstrations in the assembly fair. However, university professors held peaceful demonstrations in Aligarh and opposed the new citizenship law.

Police station fire in Mangalore

Protests were peaceful in many places in Bengaluru as opposed to the citizenship law, but protesters became violent in Mangalore. He handed over the fire to a police station. Police had to shoot in the air to disperse them.

Yet the protesters continued to attack the police. Two people were shot dead in an altercation between the protesters and the police. He has been admitted to the ICU. A school-college closure was announced Friday in protest of the incident.

The protests were peaceful in Bengaluru on the other side. However, police detained hundreds of people. Historic Ram Chandra Guha, detained for violating police restriction orders, called the police action undemocratic.

He said that the police also do not allow the peaceful demonstration of the people, which is their democratic right. Apart from Bengaluru in Karnataka, demonstrators also broke the section 144 in Hubli, Kalburgi, Hassan, Mysore and Bellary.

Railway tracks uprooted in Bihar

Members of left-wing student unions in Bihar took off the railway tracks at Rajendranagar Terminus in the early morning, while activists of the Jan Adhikari Party, a controversial former MP Pappu Yadav, burnt tires on nearby roads. He also burned an ambulance going to a nearby residential area.

Have a peaceful look at Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, Congress, NCP and various parties formed a march in Mumbai's August Revolution ground called 'Hum Bharat Ke Log' and staged a rally to protest the new citizenship law. A number of Bollywood actors, including Farhan Akhtar, Swara Bhaskar joined the show. The Shiv Sena, however, stayed away from these sightings.

Also look peaceful in West Bengal, Punjab and Northeastern states

The protests in the eastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and West Bengal were peaceful where opposition to the citizenship (reform) law began. Two persons were arrested for throwing crude bombs on a group opposing citizenship law in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The protests were peaceful in Chandigarh, Punjab.

We will 'retaliate' by selling the properties of violent spectators: Yogi

While protests turned violent on Thursday in Lucknow and Sambalpur in protest of the citizenship law, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has raised a new controversy by saying that he will 'retaliate' by seizing the properties and auctioning off those involved in violent protests against the new law.

He said that by identifying individual spectators who were harming public property through video and CCTV footage, they would seize their properties and auction them and get compensation for their damages. Violent protesters have been caught in videos and CCTV footage.

Muslims of the country need not fear: Maulvi of Ajmer Dargah

The new citizenship reform law does not have to scare the Muslims of the country, as it poses no danger to them, Maulvi of Ajmer Dargah said on Thursday. Zainul Abedin Ali Khan, Diwan of Ajmer Dargah said that the Modi government should set up a high level committee to look into the sentiments of the Muslim community and submit a factual report to Parliament after hearing their complaints. The government needs to overcome the fears and misconduct that has spread among Muslims.

CAA, NRC to remain in force: BJP

Public outcry against the new Citizenship (CAA) law has spread across the country. Though the protests have turned violent in several cities, the BJP government has refused to consider reconsidering the implementation of the law.

Reversing opposition to the new law, BJP's acting president J.P. Nadda said on Thursday that the citizenship (reform) law will remain in force across the country. No state can refuse to enforce this law. Besides, the Modi government will be bringing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) across the country in the coming days.
