Kathil cold in northern India: 119 in Delhi and 37 years in Jammu

Cold waves have reverberated across the country and especially in northern India. While Delhi was so cold on Monday, the temperature had broken the 119-year record. Delhi recorded a maximum of 9.4 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Which is considered to be the lowest temperature in the capital Delhi since 1901. In other cities of northern India, the temperature was very low as the temperature reached minus 6.5 degrees in Srinagar, where the famous Dal Lake was frozen.

Jammu too recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius at night. While the temperature was very low in Delhi, there was heavy foggy weather throughout the day.

According to an IMD official, Delhi recorded the lowest temperature since 1901, which broke the record of 119 years. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded 9.4 degrees Celsius a day, Palam here was 9 degrees, Ayyanagar 7.8 degrees and Lodhi road 9.2 degrees.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 2.6 degrees in the morning. In addition to the cold, some states are also receiving rains such as cyclonic conditions in south-east Madhya Pradesh, while central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Marathwada, southern Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana received light rains.

Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu also received rains. Andaman and Nicobar also received rainfall. The Meteorological Department has forecast that light to moderate rains will occur over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours. As a result of which there can be significant changes in temperature, the temperature here in Jammu has already broken the 37-year record.

Looking at the cold, northern India and other states will still be bitterly cold over the next 124 hours. Specifically, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Pune. Bengal, Assam has the potential to continue cold. This year, the coldest impact of Uttar Pradesh has been seen as the biggest impact of the cold.

More than 65 people have died due to cold in Uttar Pradesh in just two days. In Bihar alone, more than 40 people have been killed. There are several states where the temperature even reached minus degrees at night, which has led to the highest death rate for those who sleep on the sidewalk. There are also states where the poor and the working class suffer the most deaths due to the fact that there is no such facility in the big cities.

As many as 21 flights had to be diverted, five canceled

In Delhi, the cold has broken the record of 119 years. With this, fog has spread across the state as temperatures soar. Due to the fog, the visibility has been lowered, resulting in about 500 flights being delayed.

There are reports that around 500 flights have been delayed while 21 have to be diverted. So five flights have been canceled. Not only the flight but the trains are also experiencing severe frost. Visibility Zero at 8am in Delhi's Safdarjung and Palam observatories has resulted in the cancellation of about 25 trains.

So all the trains going from Delhi had to be taken an hour to two to three hours late. Delhi-Bhubaneswar capital was running seven hours late. The trains which have been canceled include Jammu Tawi Express, Lichhavi Express, Uchanghar Express, Budh Purnima Express, Varanasi Bareilly Express etc.

Sudden trains and flight cancellations were faced with heavy casualties, though efforts were made by the administration to provide passenger assistance. At present, Delhi is also advised not to drive vehicles in case of fog, as this increases the chance of accident.
