Chidambaram has made a huge difference in the Congress's 2010 and today's BJP's NPR: Chidambaram

New delhi date. 26. Thursday, December 2019

Like the Citizenship Investigation Bill, there has been an uproar between the BJP and the Congress for implementing the NPR (National Population Register).

Senior Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram has infuriated the BJP when an old video was also announced that the BJP had said that NPR was implemented by Congress only in 2010.

"We talked about creating a register for ordinary citizens of the country," Chidambaram said. We did not mention citizenship anywhere. The creation of the NPR in 2010 without discrimination like caste, religion, or birth was meant to prepare for the 2011 census. Which did not even mention the creation of a National Register of Citizens.

He said that the agenda of BJP government is very deadly. There is a difference between the NPR we wanted to apply and the BJP that NPR wanted to implement. There is a lot of distance between the two. If the purpose of the BJP is sacred, then they should declare that we were supposed to apply the NPR by Congress in 2010 without any condition. We support it. We have no intention of connecting with the disputed NRC.
