All telecom companies to get trial spectrum for 5G: Ravishankar Prasad

Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a program that the government would soon give telecom companies a trial spectrum for testing 5G technology. He indicated that the trial would be launched in 2020 as part of encouraging new innovations.

In a program, Ravi Shankar Prasad emphasized that promoting new innovations is vital and the government is taking effective steps in that direction. The government will soon launch auction of 5G spectrum at a trial base to promote 5G technology.

According to sources in the telecom ministry, Huawei, a company that has been successful in 5G technology in China, will also be included in the test. Apart from Indian, foreign companies will also be given the opportunity to test 5G spectrum. It is noteworthy that the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) approved a spectrum auction of Rs 5.22 lakh crore on December 20.

Under DCA approval, 8300 MHz spectrum will be auctioned in 22 circles in March-April 2020. Soon the government will get a proposal from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India for the millimeter wave band, which is in demand for 5G, and will likely launch a 5G experiment from April 2020.
