To control the onion prices, the government will import one million tonnes of onion

The government will import one million tonnes of onion to eliminate the shortage of one hundred rupees of onion in the retail market in the country.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the secretariat committee today. ' The government had decided to import one million tonnes of onion from abroad, 'said Ram Vilas Paswan, the Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs.

MMTC was asked to import onion and ordered to distribute it in the domestic market between November 15 and December 15, he tweeted. Nafed was asked to supply onion across the country.

Due to short supply, onion prices in the country reached up to one hundred rupees per kg. Onion price in Delhi and its surrounding area was one hundred rupees. However, in other parts of the country the price was Rs 60 to 70 per kg.
