It is noteworthy that a similar case took place in the late 1990s when the Supreme Court was to hear a political joke in Maharashtra this morning.

Instead of BJP leader Kalyan Singh in Uttar Pradesh, the then Uttar Pradesh Governor, Romesh Bhandari, invited Congress' Jagdambika Pal to form the government. Kalyan Singh filed a case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ordered Kalyan Singh to be the majority.

Kalyan Singh got 226 votes while Jagadumbika Pal got 196 votes. The Supreme Court has strongly criticized the state speaker and dismissed the speaker for his biased attitude. Kalyan Singh's government was formed.

Governor Ramesh Bhandari also criticized the court that the governor dismissed Kalyan Singh's government without adequate investigation.
