Rahul forgives Rahul over 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' statement, but still cares to speak: Supreme

The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a review petition demanding an investigation into the Rafale case, and also ruled in a contempt case of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' statement.

The court dismissed Rahul Gandhi in contempt case. However, the court closed the case against him, accepting Rahul Gandhi's apology and relieving him. In addition, Rahul Gandhi was asked to be cautious in giving political speeches in future court-related cases.

Rahul Gandhi had named the Supreme Court in this dispute, calling Prime Minister Modi a "watchman thief" in the Rafal case and claimed that the Supreme Court had termed PM Modi a thief. Following the Supreme Court's directive, Congress leader and renowned lawyer Abhishek Manu-Singhvi thanked the judiciary. He said that many times words like this come out of our mouths, but the intention is not contempt.

In protest over Rahul Gandhi's 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' statement, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekha filed a contempt petition against the Congress leader in the Supreme Court.

During the hearing on Thursday, the Supreme Court said, "Rahul Gandhi needs to speak in the future." The Supreme advised Rahul Gandhi to be careful in giving any kind of political speech in any court-related case in the future.

Rahul Gandhi was the Congress president. At that time, he had apologized to the Supreme Court in this case. He told the bench that his comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi were wrongly cited to the Supreme Court. He apologizes to the court for this. Rahul Gandhi apologized in this case without any conditions.

The apex court had on April 10 adjourned the government's objections and adjourned the hearing based on a new document on the review petition in the raffle case. A 3-member bench, headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi, said in a verdict that new documents had come into the domain,

Based on this, a review petition will be heard in the case. Then the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that now the Supreme Court has also assumed that the watchman is a thief. Rahul said, the Supreme Court has made it clear that Chowkidarji had stolen. The Supreme Court has acknowledged that there has been some corruption in the Rafale case.
