PIL in Supreme Court to stay on electoral bond

New delhi date. November 29, 2019, Friday

An appeal has been filed in the Supreme Court for the stay on the electoral bond scheme. The scheme was launched by the Modi government in 2018, which is being used by political parties to raise election funds.

However, reports that the government has implemented the bond despite RBI's advice have sparked huge debate. So now the matter has reached the Supreme. Applicants argue that bringing in these bonds by the government has increased corruption.

Political parties have also started taking funds from foreign companies with the help of this bond, which is against the rules and has increased corruption. At the same time, the applicant argued that because of this bond, no information could be obtained on who was donating to whom.

This appeal has been filed by the Association of Democratic Reform (ADR). The institute claimed that electoral bonds have increased corruption as no one has any idea who is giving money to which party.

A few days ago there were reports that the RBI had advised the government that it was not the right time to impose electoral bonds. However, the government rejected the RBI's advice and reports that the bonds were released triggered debate.

In addition, allegations of abuse of the bond were also made during the assembly elections. Opposition in Parliament demanded that the government declare who gave the political party the amount of money through this bond? Details of both the donor and the beneficiary should be disclosed.
