BJP gets its ego, mandate against NRC: Mamata

(PTI) Kolkata, Ta. November 28, 2019, Thursday

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said the victory of the Trinamool Congress in the state assembly by-election was in favor of 'secularism and unity' and in opposition to the NRC. The Trinamool Congress chief added that the BJP has found the answer to its ego and the humiliation of the people of the state.

In the by-elections in the state assembly, Trinamool Congress chief Tapan Deb Sinha won the Kaliyaganj seat by 2,417 votes against BJP's nearest rival, Kamal Chandra Sarkar, according to Election Commission officials.

Trinamool candidate Pradeep Sarkar won the Kharagpur Sadar seat by defeating BJP candidate Premchandra Jha by 20,788 votes. The Karimpur seat is also occupied by the Trinamool Congress. At this meeting, Trinamool candidate Bimlandu Sinha Roy defeated BJP's Jay Prakash Majumdar by 23,000 votes.

Mamata Banerjee said, “We dedicate this victory to the people of Bengal. The people of West Bengal have clearly rejected the BJP. They want to frustrate the legitimate citizens of the country and send them to detention centers. ' He added that CPI (M) and Congress were helping BJP in the state instead of strengthening themselves.

Criticizing the central government for failing to create jobs and politics over religion, Banerjee said the BJP had failed to win a majority in the recent elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. Similarly, in West Bengal, BJP has failed in the by-elections. The mandate shows the anger of the people against the BJP.
