Will Sourav Ganguly join BJP after completing tenure of Cricket Board Chairman?

New Delhi, Oct 15, 2019, Tuesday

Former cricketer who is the chairman of the Cricket Control Board of India and former India captain Sourav Ganguly could be the face of the BJP in the West Bengal elections.

There is speculation that Ganguly will be making an entry in politics after the completion of 10 months as chairman of the board. BJP may lead Ganguly in 2021 Assembly elections. Ganguly, however, is rejecting such speculation.

Questions have also arisen over whether Ganguly accepted the chairmanship of the board for only 10 months. Because for Ganguly, this deal is harmful instead of beneficial. Ganguly's decision to become chairman will result in a loss of Rs 7 crore from commentary and media contracts. As the chairman of the cricket board, he could not be involved in any other activity. He cannot even be the coach of Team India.

However, it is being said that Ganguly is ready to become the chairman of the board as he will accept the office of BJP's chief ministerial candidate in Bengal. By the end of his term as Cricket Board Chairman, elections in West Bengal will come to a close.

Ganguly, though saying he should not have contact with political leaders, has met BJP leaders like Amit Shah, Anurag Thakur and Hemant Biswa Sharma. In West Bengal, the BJP is gradually consolidating its position.
