The number of cows in the country increased by 18 percent, the highest livestock in West Bengal

Details have been revealed that there is a good increase in the number of milch cows across the country. The number of cows increased by 18% compared to 2012. At present, there are 53 million, 57 lakh 80,000 cows in the country.

Similarly, the number of buffaloes, sheep and goats also doubled in 2012. In comparison, the number of horses, camels, donkeys, mules and ponies was reduced.

These livestock census figures were recently released.

According to the census data released by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, 2019 shows that the highest livestock was in West Bengal. Livestock in West Bengal increased by 23.32 percent compared to 2018. Telangana followed by 22.21 percent, Andhra Pradesh 15.79 percent, Bihar 10.67 percent and Madhya Pradesh 11.81 percent respectively. Gujarat had increased by only 0.95 percent.

There was a ten percent increase in the number of foreign / crossbreed and indigenous buffaloes. Currently the number of buffaloes is 5.4 million in foreign / crossbreed and 14.2 crore in indigenous. In 2019, the number of foreign and crossbreed buffaloes increased by 26.9 percent compared to the previous census.
