Nobel Peace Prize to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed who makes peace with neighboring country

Oslo, Ta. October 11, 2019, Friday

The Royal Swedish Academy today announced the Nobel Peace Prize. For the year 2019, the Nobel Peace Prize is to be given to Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abi Ahmed, a country in the African continent. The Nobel Committee stated that Ahmed had ended peacefully with the neighboring country Eritrea for 20 years.

At the same time, he has provided an example of clean politics by releasing the prisoners who were imprisoned in the country for political purposes. Since 1901, there have been 99 Nobel Peace Prizes. This time the Nobel Peace Prize is 100th. A total of 301 nominees from around the world were nominated for the 100th Peace Nobel. Ahmed, 43, was chosen from among them.

Many countries on the continent are in dictatorship. As a result, those countries cannot be developed. Before Ahmed became Ethiopia's prime minister in April 2018, the country also had many unnecessary strict rules. Ahmad took the path of liberalization and started efforts to move the country towards development and peace.

When he came to power, there were several prisoners in the Ethiopian prisons, who were banned by the government because they were in opposition. Ahmed freed such prisoners, so that the free environment of democracy in the country was beginning to flourish. In addition, he ended a peace treaty with the neighboring country of Eritrea since 1998.

The Nobel Committee of Norway said at the time of announcing the award that we are giving the award to Ahmed as he took the initiative. But all the parties, territories, politicians, neighboring countries, who accompany them, are also entitled to congratulations. Because a peace treaty cannot be done alone. Interestingly, Ahmed, who was born in 1976, received a doctorate degree in Peace and Security from the University of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In the first 100 days after coming to power, he removed the censorship from the media, removed the corrupt officials in power and the army, introduced transparency into the administration, empowered women, and created an atmosphere of free elections. He will receive a diploma, a Nobel Medal and $ 9 million at the Nobel Prize Distribution Ceremony held on December 10th.
