NDA in Rajya Sabha is gradually strengthening: closer to majority

New delhi date. Wednesday 16 October 2019

For the last few time, opposition MPs from the NDA have been leaving the party or some other way from the Rajya Sabha. Due to this, the NDA in the Rajya Sabha is gradually getting stronger. As of now, the NDA is only a short distance away from the majority in the Rajya Sabha. One more Congress MP is leaving the party on Wednesday.

Moreover, sources in the BJP say that it is still unprecedented for more opposition MPs to leave their party when the winter session of Rajya Sabha is about to begin. Karnataka Rajya Sabha MP has left the party on Wednesday. So that the strength of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha has diminished.

According to BJP sources, more opposition MPs will leave the party in the coming days: Five seats in Rajya Sabha are currently vacant

The opposition was strong in the House during the first term of the NDA, which was a hindrance to the NDA's agenda and bill. While the NDA had to make many efforts to support the opposition, the NDA has come up with a strong mandate in its second term.

Karnataka Congress Rajya Sabha MP KC Rammurthy has left 45 seats in the Rajya Sabha as soon as he leaves the party on Wednesday. On the other hand, as BJP MLAs are in majority in Karnataka, this vacant seat of Rajya Sabha will get them. With that, BJP will get 83 seats out of 245 seats in Rajya Sabha.

Rammurthy has resigned from the Congress and is likely to join the BJP. Currently, five seats are vacant within the Rajya Sabha and the combined strength of the NDA is 106 seats. AIADMK, which is not officially an NDA constituent, but mostly supports the government. Which has 11 members of the Rajya Sabha. It has 7 members from BJD, 6 from TRS, 2 from YRS Congress and 3 from other regional parties.

BJP sources believe that in the coming days, MPs from those states will also leave their party where the by-elections will take place.

After the huge victory in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has begun to take the opposition parties like the Congress, the Samajwadi and the TDP etc. into their own party. So that the Rajya Sabha does not have to face the same situation as the first term again. It is worth mentioning that the strong opposition before this has turned water over many NDA plans and bills.
