India has the tallest post office in the world at 14567 feet

Even though the postal service is losing its importance in the digital age of e-mail internet and WhatsApp, there are still around 1 lakh post offices in the world today. Out of which, the good news in the form of papers and documents is getting to the human society. Speaking of India, it has the largest postal network in the world with 155015 post offices and 4,337 employees.

Not only that, Hikkim, which has a population of 600 people in Himachal Pradesh, has the highest post office in the world. This post office is 14567 feet above sea level. In the age of mobile, Hikkim's post office also receives about 15-20 mails daily. The bank also has a savings account of 50 people. The post office zip code is 172114. Delivery of postal mail in this inaccessible area is a daunting task, however, the post department delivers regular postal mail even after loss.

At one time people living in Hikkim had to go to a place called Kaji, 25 km away, to post a post. But now there is regular postal service right at home. A red-colored board has been erected on the wall outside the Hikkim's post office running under the canopy of dry grass in a raw clay house. Although it was once believed that the post office at Mount Fuji at 12290 feet in height was the tallest in the world, then Hikkim's name also rose to prominence in the discussion. The post office of India, in honor of the highest post office in the world, also issued the postal ticket of Hikkim Post Office in June 2014.

Beyond China and Russia in the India Postal Network

A postal organization called the Universal Postal Union was founded in Switzerland in 1874. This organization goes a long way in doing post related activities. According to its statistics, after India, China ranks second with 57135 post offices and Russia is third with 41052 post offices. There are more than 40,000 post offices in America. Thus India is even ahead of a large number of countries, such as China and Russia, in the numerical network and service of the Post Office. The Post Department of India was established on October 1, 1954.
