India and Pakistan signed visa-free Kartarpur corridor

India and Pakistan on Thursday signed a historic agreement on the Kartarpur corridor. Under this agreement, Indian devotees will be allowed to visa-free visit to Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism in Pakistan.

Although the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan were strained, the two countries agreed on this agreement. However, Indian devotees will have to pay a US $ 20 fee to Pakistan for a visit to the Gurdwara Sahib.

Online registration for Kartarpur has begun. The corridor is located just four km from the international border to Dera Baba Naik Gurudwara in Punjab, India. Sitharath in the far Punjab province of Pakistan will connect with Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

Joint Secretary S. in the Union Home Ministry. C. L. Das and Pakistan's Foreign Spokesperson and Director General (South Asia and SAARC) Mohammad Faisal signed the agreement at Kartarpur Zero Point on the international border, fulfilling the long-standing demand of Sikh society.

Under this agreement, Indian devotees will be allowed to visit the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan. Guru Nanak Dev spent the last 18 years of his life at this site.

Although the relations between India and Pakistan were strained recently, the two countries agreed to sign the agreement after three rounds of talks. After the abolition of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, relations between the two countries deteriorated further.

Pakistan had cut diplomatic relations with India and expelled the Indian ambassador. Under this agreement, Indian-origin devotees will be able to visit the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan without a visa using the corridor.

After signing the agreement, Faisal said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has fulfilled his promise to complete the corridor within a year. It was not easy to reach an agreement on the Kartarpur corridor.

How can Kartarpur go?

As per the agreement, the corridor will be open seven days a week and up to 5,000 Sikhs will be allowed to visit Kartarpur daily. The pilgrims will have to carry a passport for their identity. Pakistan will hand over a list of visitors to Gurudwara to India 10 days before their itinerary, he said. The pilgrims will be informed that their name is selected via SMS and e-mail three to four days before the date of the tour. Each visitor must pay a fee of US $ 20.
