Floods and landslides hit Japan heavily: 13 dead, many injured

Tokyo, Ta. October 26, 2019, Saturday

In Japan, after the heavy rains, floods and landslides are devastating. The death toll from floods and landslides in Japan has dropped to 13, and three people are still searching.

A whirlwind broke out two weeks ago near the Chiba area, southeast of Tokyo, and its aerial footage showed emergency workers removing debris from two homes. The two houses were flooded with water in Chiba, located southeast of Tokyo. Officials said nine people, including two elderly people, were killed due to floods and landslides in the area.

In addition, a 40-year-old woman was found dead from the coast in eastern Fukushima province, a fire brigade official said. Currently, Japanese police are trying to find three people with the help of submarines. Thousands of people had to spend the night at Narita airport headquarters as train services were halted.

The 75-year-old victim of the disaster reported that water was flowing in her garden as a river. Two weeks ago, a hurricane called Hagibis struck Japan's east coast, killing more than 80 people. Many rivers and gorges were broken down during the storm, with repairs still pending.

The Japan Meteorological Department on Saturday announced a reduction in the risk of landslides and flooding due to rainfall, thus relieving rescue operations. In addition, mandatory evacuation orders were lifted from several areas. However, about 1,800 people are still in relief camps.
