BJP announces 78 candidates for Haryana assembly election

The BJP today announced the list of 78 candidates for the Haryana assembly elections to be held on October 21. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will once again lean from the Karnal seat.

The party has recently been given the opportunity to contest a number of sports talent, including wrestler Babita Phogat, former Indian hockey team captain Sandeep Singh, Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt. Babita will be contesting from Dardi, Sandeep, while Yogeshwar Dutt will contest from the Baroda seat.

The party's national general secretary Arun Singh here today said that the party's central election committee, which was held yesterday, has re-elected 38 MLAs, while seven have been dropped. The total strength of the Haryana Assembly is 90.

Chief Minister Khattar was elected from the Karnal seat in the 2014 elections. Aditya Devilal, the grandson of former Jat leader Devilal, will stand from the left. Of the 78 candidates declared, nine are women, while two are Muslims. Candidates can be filled up by October 4.
