Appeal to Supreme Court to Link Social Media Account with Aadhaar

(PTI) New Delhi, Ta. September 30, 2019, Monday

A petition was filed against the Center today to guide the Center to take steps to link social media with a 12-digit digital unique identification number-base to prevent faked and paid news and information.

In a petition seeking to prevent duplicate, false and haunted social media accounts, the government demanded that the government take initiative to link the profile to such platforms, including Facebook and Twitter accounts.

The petition filed by advocate Ashwani Upadhyay called for action to be taken to correct the injunction of the Center to stop false and money-buying news.

48 hours before the election, a political advertisement or paid news was sought in the petition to remove it as a corrupt practice under the Representation Act 1951.

It was claimed that ten per cent of the 3.5 crore Twitter handlers were duplicates, with names of prominent people like the Chief Minister and the President as well as the Prime Minister. The petition also alleged that thousands of Facebook accounts were also forged. These were the true photos of the constitutional authority and were used to promote racist and secessionist practices.
