Abhijit Banerjee of Indian origin got the Nobel of Economics

Indian-origin Abhijit Banerjee has been honored with the Nobel Prize in Economics. He was also honored with Esther Duflo and Michael Kramer. All three economists have been honored for their research on the 'experiment to reduce global poverty'.

Abijit Banerjee, an Indian citizen of Indian origin, is the recipient of this honor under the category of Economic Signs. He is currently a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is co-founder of Abdul Latif Jamil Poverty Action Lab.

Abhijit Banerjee is a native of West Bengal. He was born in Calcutta on February 21, 1961. His parents were both economics professors. He made his studies from South Point School and Presidency College, Calcutta. He obtained a Bachelor of Economics degree from Presidency College, after which he graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi in 1983 and later went to Howard University to do his PhD.
