To praise Modi is like finding a needle in a haystack: Khurshid

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi is as difficult a task as finding a needle in a haystack, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said on Sunday.

While some Congress leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Shashi Tharoor should praise Prime Minister Modi for doing well, Khurshid said that the Congress was very concerned about how the country was doing. Referring to the statement of senior party leaders praising Prime Minister Modi, Khurshid said, "In my view, praising Modi is like finding a needle in a haystack."

While Jairam Ramesh and other leaders have suggested that Modi should not always be a villain, the former Union Minister said that he could not respond in the context of 'specific cases' in Modi's case as it would create further confusion.

Talking about the role of the Gandhi family in the future of the party, Salman Khurshid, 66, said the fact that the Gandhi family is the cornerstone of today's Congress is a reality. Regardless of what the BJP will say or the outcome of the election, we still believe that the Gandhi family should lead the party.

Asked whether Sonia Gandhi should lead the party for long, Aang Khurshid said the absence of a Gandhi family in the top position in the party would make it difficult for the party to find an alternative. Responding to a question as to whether Priyanka Gandhi was the right choice for Congress president after Sonia Gandhi, Khurshid said that she could not say anything about the matter.
