Thousands are in jail but BDC elections in Kashmir will take place

According to the announcement made by the Election Commission of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the Block Development Council will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on the 24th of next month. The announcement shocked many as hundreds of people were still in detention, including two former state ministers.

Election officer of Jammu and Kashmir Shailendra Kumar said that the results will be announced on the same day as the elections are held. Currently, hundreds of people are imprisoned under the state's Ranveer Pinal Code.

Two former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah are also in jail. The separatist factors and their supporters are also jailed. The state still has some restrictions in place. But it was decided to hold the Block Development Council.

The Election Commission and the Sarpanch of that village, together with the District Development Board, will elect the Chairman. Then the District Development Board will be formed. The previously elected chairman will serve as chairman of the district development board. He will not serve as the MLA and the Chairman of the District Development Board.

Under the Panchayat Raj Act 1989 and 1996, the District Development Board will play an important role in the overall development of the district itself.

According to the Election Commission, there will be elections in 310 blocks of the state, of which 172 seats are reserved for BC, OBC. According to information provided by Shailendra Kumar, there are 26,629 candidates out of which 8,313 are female candidates.

More than fifty percent of the blocks ie 168 blocks are located in the Kashmir Valley.
