One country, one language, Hindi can bind one country to another: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday recommended Hindi as an official language, advocating 'one country, one language' on the occasion of Hindi day in the country. He said that it is very important to have one language in the whole country today. Hindi language can work to unite the country today. His statement, however, created controversy.

In a video message on Hindi day, Amit Shah said that it is very important to have one language in the entire country, which should become India's identity in the world. Today, if any language can do the work of building the country in unity, it is the most spoken Hindi language.

I want to appeal to all the citizens of the country that more than 20% of the people in the world can speak in Hindi, can read Hindi, can express their views in Hindi, so why not move towards making Hindi the most spoken language in the world? So that the UAE also has to accept that Hindi is the most spoken language in the world and we can make good use of Hindi to tie our country into a unity formula.

Shah said many languages and many dialects are the biggest strength of our country, but because the language of the country is one language, there is a need to create an environment where foreign languages do not have space.

In keeping with one language of the country, our ancestors conceived the official language and adopted Hindi as the official language. It is our responsibility to promote Hindi. Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah greeted the countrymen on Saturday on the occasion of Hindi Day.

Amit Shah tweeted that today on the occasion of Hindi day, I appeal to all citizens that we should use Hindi language as well as promote the use of our own mother tongue and contribute to fulfill the dream of Bapu and Sardar Patel, a language of the country.

However, Amit Shah's statement created controversy, and especially from Bengal to the southern states, Amit Shah's statement was opposed. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi tried to give this controversy a communal color by linking the discussion of 'one language' with Hinduism. He tweeted, 'Hindi is not the mother tongue of every Indian. India is bigger than Hindi, Hindu, Hindutva.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also wrote a Hindi Hindi greeting saying that we should respect all languages and cultures equally. The DMK leader from Tamil Nadu told Stalin that we were constantly protesting against Hindi imposition on us. Today, Amit Shah's comments are shocking. This will affect the unity of the country.
