Chidambaram was awakened on the first night in Tihar Jail

Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram did not sleep at Tihar Jail. In the morning, he was walking outside his room. He had read some religious books. Karti Chidambaram then came to visit his father in jail.

According to sources, Chidambaram could not sleep properly in jail all night. He had breakfast, tea, milk, and kanji at six in the morning. Then Chidambaram read religious books and news papers.

Chidambaram has been jailed for seven counts in Tihar. There are usually accused persons associated with ED cases. Chidambaram, who was also Home Minister under the UPA-II regime, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days in an INX media corruption case.

Chidambaram will turn 74 on September 16. According to sources, Chidambaram is likely to be in jail on his birthday too. They are not given any special facilities other than a separate cell and Western toilet.

Like other prisoners, Chidambaram has also been allowed to go to the library and watch TV for a while. Chidambaram's medical check up was also done before the cell was allotted.

P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram's son was also kept in the same jail for 12 days last year. Chidambaram was taken to Tihar, Asia's largest jail, amid heavy security following a special CBI court order from Delhi yesterday.

Chidambaram has been allocated a separate cell in view of the Z level security. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's nephew Ratul Puri has been jailed for seven counts in Tiger in Augusta Westland and bank fraud cases.
