11 killed in boat sinking during Ganesh immersion in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

At least 11 people were sunk when the boat was turned upside down near the Khatlapura Ghat during the Ganesh Dissolution on Thursday evening in Madhya Pradesh's capital, Bhopal.

There were a total of 18 people on the boat.

The drowners rescued six others. The remaining one was under investigation. Rescuers said the boat was turned upside down as more people filled the boat than capacity.

The slain were declared as compensation by the state government for four lakh rupees each. The corporation also announced the assistance of fifty thousand rupees to the families of those killed. Meanwhile, the state government minister, PC Sharma, handed over the investigation to the district magistrate.

The observer of the incident said that the boat had more people than its capacity and the statue of Ganeshji was also large in size and the total load could not be lifted. The state government had prepared dive service at the scene. In addition to attending the State Disaster Relief Committee.
