Why do you work so well on non-political material? Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi finds out about the CBI

New delhi date. Wednesday 14th August 2019

The Chief Justice of the country, Ranjan Gogoi, while taking cognizance of the CBI, said that in the cases involving high profile and political leaders, you scoff and do good in non-state cases. Why so

The Chief Justice recommended that the CBI be granted powers like Comptroller and Account General (CAG). Speaking at the DP Kohli Memorial Lecture at Vigyan Bhavan, the Chief Justice expressed concern over political and administrative interference in the functioning of the CBI. He categorically said that when investigating a non-state incident, the CBI does a good job, but in cases where a political leader or a government man is involved, the CBI begins to make mistakes.

How can such a double standard run? I can cite some instances in which the CBI does not do the right process of justice when political leaders are involved. Referring to the Supreme Court verdict in the Vineet Narayan case, he said that the CBI should act in such a way as to satisfy the expectations of the common man. You should work in a neutral manner to protect your reputation.
