West Bengal: Caught more than lobbing mobs will get life imprisonment

Kolkata, Aug 28, 2019, Wednesday

The culprit, who was found guilty of mob lynching, has now been informed that the West Bengal government is planning to impose life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.

Citing a Trinamool Congress leader, appearing from Kolkata, the Telegraph Daily said that the crowd was preparing to present the Prevention of Murder Bill in the 2109 state assembly. The bill envisages planning for mob lynching, life imprisonment for sex, gender, birthplace, language gender protests, protesting for food, political cause or any other motive involved in mass violence and a fine of one to five lakh rupees.

The Left party welcomed this move. Left leader Sujan Chakraborty said this was a good initiative. However, after a detailed study of the bill, I will give my final opinion. All I am saying right now is that this is a good initiative.

"We are enacting this law to protect the constitutional rights of the underprivileged and minorities," a senior ruling party minister said on Tuesday.
