Shastri appointed again as coach of Indian team: Kapil's decision of committee

Without the influence of Indian captain Kohli's selection, the committee headed by Kapil Dev has again appointed Ravi Shastri as the coach of the Indian cricket team.

After the committee of Kapil Dev, Anshuman Gaikwad and Shanta Rangaswamy interviewed five candidates for the head coach of the Indian cricket team in Mumbai, it was unanimously decided to extend Shastri's tenure for another two years. Shastri will now be the coach of Team India till the Twenty20 World Cup, which will be played on Indian soil in 2021.

Former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson and former Australian cricketer Tom Moody have been overtaken by current coach Shastri in the race to become India's head coach of the world's richest cricket board's hyprofile team. Former Indian cricketer Robin Singh and Zimbabwe coach as well as former team manager Lalchand Rajput could not even reach the top three in the race to become head coach of the Indian team.

BCCI included a total of six candidates in the race for Team India Head Coach, of which Simmons, a former Windies veteran, was fired for personal reasons and did not attend the interview.

The panel, led by Kapil Dev, started the interview process at BCCI's headquarters in Mumbai from noon today. Besides Hesson, Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput were present in front of the panel. When Tom Moody and Shastri interviewed videoconferencing.

Shastri's fourth term with the Indian team

This is the fourth term of former cricketer Ravi Shastri, who has been re-elected as the coach of Team India. In 2007, he was appointed as the cricket manager for the Indian cricket team's tour of Bangladesh.

Following this, Team India's disappointing performance in the 2014 tour of England led to Shastri being appointed as the team director. He held that position until 2016. In the year 2016, the panel of Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman dropped Kumble as coach and coached Kumble. However, after a year and a half of Champions Trophy in 2017, Shastri returned to India as the head coach of Team India.
