Assam: Out of 19 lakh out of NRC final list, 144 apply

A final list of the NRC has been issued today in Assam. NRC State Co-ordinator Pratik Hajela informed that 3.11 crore (3,11,21,004) people have been included in the NRC list while 19 lakh (19,06,657) people have been excluded from the list. Accordingly, these people did not give their claims. These people can now appeal to a foreign tribunal.

The future of the nearly 40 million people on this final list is not decided. Although the name is not included in the list, it can appeal to a foreign tribunal. Security has been tightened in Assam. Section 144 has been implemented in some other sensitive areas of the state, including Guwahati, the capital of Assam.

In Assam, 3 crore 29 lakh people were called to be included in the NRC, but only 2 crore 90 lakh people were included in the draft list issued last year as almost 40 lakh people could not provide any documents proving their citizenship.
