A Kolkata court arrests warrant against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor

New Delhi, August 14, 2019, Wednesday

A Kolkata court has issued an arrest warrant against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor said that if the BJP comes to power again, it will write a new constitution and create a Hindu Pakistan.

Tharoor's statement created controversy and the BJP demanded Tharoor apologize. The warrant was issued by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dipanjan Chowdhury in response to a petition filed by a lawyer from Kolkata, Sumit Chowdhury. The next hearing in this case will take place on September 24.

Tharoor made this statement in Thiruvananthapuram. Annoyed by this, Sumit Chowdhury filed a petition with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court. Chaudhary alleged that former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor was spreading enmity between different groups of people on religious issues. The court issued a warrant for arrest because no lawyer was present from Shashi Tharoor when the petition was heard in the court on Tuesday.
