A major theft incident has come to light in Italy. Around 49 gold artefacts were stolen from an exhibition near Lake Garda on Wednesday night. All these statues were created by the Italian sculptor Umberto Mastroini.
Forty-nine works of art worth 1.2 million euros (over 1.3 million US dollars) were stolen from the exhibition, Like a Warm, Flowing Gold. The exhibition opened at the end of December and was scheduled to close on Friday, March 8.
Where did the 48 idols disappear?
According to the report, one of the 49 idols was named Umo/Donna (Male/Female). The latter was seen in the exhibition premises itself. However, information about other 48 idols has not been found so far. A spokeswoman for the estate said the theft was being investigated. Giordana Bruno Guerri, president of the estate, said he believed the theft was the work of a large gang.
