Maldives President Muijju has been consistently anti-India and pro-China since he was sworn in as president in November last year. Within hours of taking over the presidency, he emphasized the return of Indian soldiers, showing his strong stance towards India. He has set a deadline of May 10 for the return of all Indian military personnel.

On Thursday, he said that India has been at the forefront of providing assistance to Maldives and has implemented several projects. India will continue to be a close partner of Maldives. There is no question about it. Muizzou demanded that all 88 military personnel from three Indian aviation platforms return by May 10. India has provided humanitarian assistance to the Maldives through two helicopters and a Dornier aircraft for the past few years. Two helicopters and one Dornier aircraft were used for this. Maldives is 70 nautical miles from Minikoy Island in Lakshadweep, India and 300 nautical miles from the mainland.
