Indian Election Campaign in Moscow: India got independence in 1947 and the country became a republic in 1950. Then it was decided to hold general elections in 1952 for the first time in the country. The times were different, and so were the methods of election campaigning. At that time political parties did not have much money and no special resources. So all the political parties were doing very limited campaigning about Congress. But there was one party which campaigned not from India but from abroad and that too from a foreign radio station.
For the first time election campaigning was done in this way
The methods of election campaigning in India's first general elections were very different and unique. Election campaign slogans were written by political parties on the walls of various places. Also, in some places slogans were written on the backs of animals for propaganda. The loud speakers were making so much noise from the election parties that people also had to face a lot of trouble due to it. At that time there was no concept of TV or Internet. So this medium disappeared from the world in Indian elections for a long time.
Soviet leaders were deeply interested in the communist movement in India
Before India's independence, the eyes of the Soviet Union were also fixed on India. After the establishment of the communist regime in the Soviet Union, the government there wanted to spread the communist movement around the world. So the veteran leaders of the Soviet Union took special interest in India. This includes leaders like Lenin and Stalin.
Stalin instructed Moscow Radio
The Communist Party of India (CPI) was formed in India in 1925. This party began to act as a base between laborers and workers. When the Communist Party of India entered the fray in the first general elections, the then head of the Soviet Union, Stalin, was taking great interest in these elections. He instructed Moscow Radio to help the Communist Party of India by starting CPI's election campaign through it.
Moscow Radio campaigned for the CPI for four months
Moscow Radio began broadcasting election campaign programs for the Communist Party of India from its center continuously from October 1951 to February 1952. Then this general election lasted for four months. and was constantly promoted by Moscow radio. At that time radio was the only listening medium for people. The BBC also highlighted in its report how the Communist Party of India was promoted by Moscow radio in the first general election.
