19 dead, 80,000 displaced, many missing after torrential rains in Indonesia

Dony Usrizal, the head of the local disaster management authority, said that several tons of soil, rocks and uprooted trees rolled down the mountain and reached a river late at night. This led to several embankments breaking and flooding in the mountainous areas of Pessir Selatan District, West Sumatra Province. Due to which there was an uproar. A total of 19 deaths have been reported so far.

More than 80 thousand people were displaced

At least two villagers have so far been injured in the flash floods while rescuers are searching for seven people who are still missing, authorities said. 14 houses were destroyed due to floods and landslides. While more than 80000 people are reported to have been displaced. They are being forced to take shelter in relief camps. Around 20000 houses in 9 districts and cities have been flooded.
