US President Biden appointed Sankata Bulsara, a judge of Indian origin to the New York court

US President Joe Biden has appointed Judge Sanket Jayshukh Bulsara of Indian origin to the Eastern District Court of New York. Serving in the District Court of New York, Bulsara specializes in securities, contracts, bankruptcy and regulatory matters. He received a JD from Harvard Law School in 2002 and an AB from Harvard College in 1998.

Sanket started working as a clerk and rose to the rank of judge

Bulsara, 46, has served as a US Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York since 2017. From January-2017 to May-2017, Bulsara served as Acting General Counsel of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. He has handled appellate litigation, adjudication and enforcement legal matters since 2015. Bulsara also clerked for Judge John G. Koelt on the Court of Appeals for the Southern District of New York from 2002 to 2003. Bulsara also holds the distinction of being the first South Asian American federal judge to be appointed to a US court.

Bulsara's parents settled here 50 years ago

Bulsara was born in New Rochelle. His parents are immigrants from India and Kenya who settled here 50 years ago. His father worked as an engineer in New York City. His mother was a nurse. Bulsara currently resides in Long Island City with his wife Christine DeLorenzo.
