Climate change is a small word but it is only when its opposite effect is created on human nature that we realize the disturbance in this natural cycle and the problems we have created. A volcano erupted for the third time since December in the southwest of Iceland, a European country, on Thursday. This is the third volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula since December. This fire has again poured droplets of smoke into the sky.
The volcano's intensity is so terrifying that the Blue Lagoon Spa, one of the island nation's biggest tourist centers, was forced to evacuate. This volcanic eruption has created a new fissure 3.21 km long. A lava fountain 200 feet high is erupting from this fissure. Currently, there is no injury to the local people or any property damage due to this volcanic eruption but the lava has flowed onto the road. It looks like a river of fire is flowing on the roads. Ashes are spreading on the road where the fire cools down in the distance.
Iceland's Meteorological Department said the eruption began at 6 am (IST) and erupted three kilometers north-east of Mount Sundhanukur. The volcano erupted about four kilometers northeast of Grindavik, a coastal town of 3,800 people.
It is to be noted that this area was evacuated before the previous volcanic eruption on December 18.
Scientists have already warned:
Lava is flowing west and there is no immediate threat to Grindavik or any major power plants in the area, the Met Office said. Iceland's national broadcaster RUV reported that civil protection officials reported that people were evacuated to safe places before the explosion.
The nearby Blue Lagoon thermal spa was closed and everyone evacuated just before the volcano erupted. The department had warned of a possible eruption earlier this week after monitoring the magma for the past three weeks.
Earthquake shocks were also felt:
Hundreds of small and large earthquakes have been felt in the region since last Friday. A video from the Icelandic Coast Guard shows lava rising more than 50 meters into the sky. A cloud of smoke was spread about three kilometers above the volcano. Iceland's main airport, Keflavik, is located in this area.
