BJP president Nadda will not contest the Lok Sabha elections: will be re-elected as a Rajya Sabha member

- Nirmala Sitharaman and S. Jaishankar will not contest 2024 elections: Both have 3 years remaining as Rajya Sabha MPs

New Delhi: National President of Bharatiya Janata Party will not contest the next Lok Sabha elections. Sources say that he is eager to be re-elected to the Rajya Sabha. Sources say he will be sent to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh for his second term. Sources also say that the chances of him going to the Rajya Sabha from his home state Himachal Pradesh are very low as the BJP has less strength where there is a Congress government. So he hopes to get elected to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.

Their main reason for not standing in the Lok Sabha elections is that they can be free during the Lok Sabha elections. In fact, the Election Commission has fixed February 27 as the election date for the 56 vacant Rajya Sabha seats. Since he will be elected from Uttar Pradesh for sure, he will be able to guide the party without any further hassles in the Lok Sabha polls starting from end of April at the earliest. Apart from Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also an MP of Rajya Sabha but both of them have more than 3 years left in their term, they want to stay in Rajya Sabha or if they want, they are likely to be allowed to contest Lok Sabha elections as well.

The 56 seats that are to fall vacant and the elections for which are to be held on February 27 are among those retiring from the seats. P. Nadda is likely to be re-elected. Apart from this, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is about to retire. As he has reached 91 years, he is unlikely to contest again but the Union Ministers who are due to retire include Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav and Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya are likely to contest again.
