Weather reversal: Rain forecast amid bone-chilling cold in North India

New Delhi: Amid bone-chilling cold in North India, the weather is likely to turn once again. According to the report of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in North West and Central India between January 8 and 10. On the other hand, the national capital New Delhi was covered in light fog on Saturday.

Due to increasing cold in Delhi since December 27, sighting of the sun has become rare in nine cities including Delhi for 9 days. Here, such a situation has been seen after five years. In addition, the transportation of many trains has been affected due to fog, due to which 20,000 tickets have been canceled and the railway has suffered a loss of approximately one and a half crores.

Due to dense fog in the capital Delhi, the sun has been covered in Delhi, so the cold has increased. The cold has increased in Delhi since December 25. As a result, seeing the sun has become rare for Delhiites for nine days. Apart from Delhi, the situation is similar in NCR, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Varanasi. In Haryana and Punjab too, the sunshine has reduced due to the growing cold and the atmosphere is shrouded in fog most of the time.

Meanwhile, as the 40-day severe winter season of 'Chillai-Kalan' is going on in Kashmir, bone-chilling cold is falling, so that the temperature has dropped to four degrees below the average at many places. The bone-chilling cold has left the world-famous Dal Lake and other lakes covered in ice. The minimum temperature was recorded at minus 2.9 degree in Kokernag of Kashmir. In the same way, Rajasthan is also covered by the kingdom of cold with falling mercury. In Rajasthan, Sikar on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of two degrees, the lowest in the state, while Sirohi recorded a temperature of 4.1 degrees.

The Meteorological Department said, there is a possibility of a change in the weather in the near future amid severe cold in North India. North West and Mid West are likely to receive rain between January 8 and 10, while some states will receive hail, so the cold spell may increase. Dense fog will continue to cover North-West India including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan for two more days.

As North India is currently surrounded by dense fog, the movement of trains has been affected. More than 22 trains have slowed down in North Indian states due to reduced visibility and cancellation of trains at some places. About 20,000 confirmed tickets have been canceled due to the slowness of the trains, so the railway has suffered a loss of approximately one and a half crores. This situation is likely to remain in the future.
