Sri Lanka understands India's awe: Bans Chinese 'research' ships for 1 year

- Sri Lanka's 'Hamban-Tota' port imposes 1-year moratorium on India's protest over anchoring of Chinese 'spy ship'

Colombo: India strongly protested against Chinese spy ship Langarwa in Sri Lanka's Hambantota Bara. This spy ship is, in fact, a 'research ship' to say the least, but the possibility that it is spying cannot be 'ruled out'. Hence Sri Lanka banned the anchoring of that 'research ship' for one year after India protested, the island nation has banned any foreign 'research ship' in its waters for a year.

However, Sri Lanka has given the reason that, 'It has imposed this restriction as it is undergoing reforms to increase the capacity of our ports, the restriction will be lifted as the capacity increases.'

According to an agreement reached between Sri Lankan agencies and China a few years ago, a Chinese ship has stopped at Colombo in Sri Lanka for research. Last October, the Chinese 'research ship' 'Xian-6' stayed in Colombo for several days. When in 2022, the Chinese Navy ship 'Yuan-Wang-5' stopped at 'Hamban-Tota' in South Sri Lanka.

India was apprehensive about this that these ships are being used only for surveillance in the Indian Ocean. Along with this, China is trying to increase its influence in Sri Lanka. Among those ports, the 'Hamban-Tota' port is located on one of the world's busiest waterways. In addition, it is located on top of the Indian Ocean. From where the northern sector of the Indian Ocean can be fully monitored, India is understandably concerned, which is why India has protested against Sri Lanka, which has resulted in Sri Lanka banning any foreign research vessel from entering its territorial waters for a year. to stay
