The Union Home Ministry has canceled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) of a famous think tank headed by Yamini Iyer, daughter of Congress leader Mani Shankar Iyer. The name of this think tank is Center for Policy Research (CPR). According to the officials, Yamini Iyer was violating the rules of the institution.
According to information received from Home Ministry sources, Center for Policy Research's FCRA license has been canceled due to violation of rules. The Center for Policy Research was on the government's radar even before. Earlier, income tax surveys were done on this think tank. According to sources, the Home Ministry had suspended the FCRA license of CPR in March last year. Now the FCRA division of MHA has canceled its license.
What were the charges against CPR?
According to sources, think tank CPR allegedly received funding from several foreign organisations, including the Ford Foundation. The think tank was also accused of having funded the NGO of Teesta Setalvad, a social activist from Gujarat. However, the Home Minister had canceled the FCRA license of Teestana NGO Sabrang Trust in the year 2016 itself.
